Copper Shorting Rings in Speaker Drivers: A Technical Overview
Copper shorting rings are engineered components used in speaker drivers to improve performance through two main functions:
-
Eddy Current Mitigation:
The movement of the voice coil in a magnetic field induces eddy currents, which can lead to energy loss and distortion. The copper ring provides a low-impedance path that shunts these currents, thereby stabilizing the magnetic environment. -
Reduction of Effective Inductance:
By directing stray currents away from the voice coil, the ring lowers the overall effective inductance. This reduction improves the transient response of the driver, leading to more accurate signal reproduction and reduced distortion.
