The spider, also called the suspension, is a flexible woven ring inside the speaker driver. It connects the cone and voice coil to the frame, working like a spring to keep everything centered and stable.
What It Does
• Centers the voice coil in the magnetic gap
• Controls motion so the cone moves accurately and returns to rest
• Adds stability at high excursion, reducing distortion and wear
Why It Matters
The spider balances flexibility and control. If it is too stiff, bass output is limited. If it is too soft, distortion increases. A well-designed spider ensures clean, accurate sound and long-term reliability.
