We occasionally get questions about whether our legacy subwoofer models, the 1723 Subwoofer 1, Subwoofer 1.5, Subwoofer 2, and Subwoofer 3, can be upgraded with the new amplifier modules from our latest generation of subwoofers.
The short answer is no, this upgrade is not possible.
Why the Upgrade Isn’t Compatible
Our new amplifier platforms, the Avalanche 800 IQ and Avalanche 1200 IQ, were specifically designed and tuned for the latest generation of Arendal Sound subwoofers. (1723 Subwoofer 1S, 2S, 1V and 2V)
These amplifiers are part of a complete system redesign, which includes:
New driver technology with upgraded motor structures and suspensions
Integrated DSP calibration that’s tightly matched to the performance of the new drivers and cabinets
Because of these hardware and software changes, the new amplifiers are not electrically or acoustically compatible with the older subwoofer designs. A simple swap would not work and could even damage the unit.
Our Design Philosophy
At Arendal Sound, every component is engineered as part of a complete, balanced system. The amplifier, driver, and cabinet are developed together to achieve precise control, low distortion, and consistent performance across all listening levels.
Upgrading only one part, like the amplifier, would break that balance. That’s why, rather than retrofitting legacy models, we focus on advancing our entire subwoofer platform as a unified design.
Summary
While legacy subwoofers such as the 1723 Subwoofer 1–3 remain excellent performers, the new Avalanche IQ amplifiers are exclusive to the redesigned models that use the latest driver and cabinet technology.
If you’re considering upgrading your setup, we recommend exploring our current subwoofer lineup, which takes performance, control, and flexibility to a whole new level.
