What are the key differences between our 1961 Bookshelf and 1961 Monitor?
The 1961 Bookshelf is a sealed 2-way design. Thanks to its driver layout and advanced waveguide, it offers a wider radiation pattern compared to the MTM (Mid/Tweeter/Mid) configuration of the 1961 Monitor. This results in a larger and more immersive soundstage, particularly in the vertical axis, allowing the speakers to "disappear" into the room and create an enveloping listening experience. This characteristic is especially advantageous in smaller spaces and at closer listening distances. While the sealed design helps maintain clarity when positioned near walls, we recommend pairing it with a subwoofer for full-range performance.
The 1961 Monitor is also a 2-way design but utilizes an MTM (D'Appolito) configuration. This arrangement delivers a more focused and controlled sound by minimizing floor and ceiling reflections, making it ideal for larger rooms and longer listening distances. Additionally, the dual mid/bass drivers increase output capability, reduce distortion, and extend the bass response compared to the 1961 Bookshelf. This results in a fuller and more extended low-end response from the 1961 Monitor, although a subwoofer is still advised for true full-range capability.
In summary, both speakers excel in different scenarios, and the ideal choice will depend on your room size, listening distance, and personal preferences.
