The primary difference between the 1961 Tower and 1961 Monitor is their low-frequency response and output.
1961 Tower
- Features a rear vent and a significantly larger cabinet.
- Better suited for setups without subwoofers due to its extended low-frequency response
1961 Monitor
- A sealed enclosure that naturally rolls off around 70Hz.
- Ideal for easy subwoofer integration.
Choosing Between the Tower and Monitor with Subwoofers
If you have one or multiple subwoofers, the choice depends on their placement:
-
Subwoofers behind or to the side of the listening position
- The Tower is a better choice as it allows for a lower crossover frequency, making the subwoofers harder to locate.
-
Subwoofers placed on the front wall (where the speakers are)
- The Monitor is sufficient, especially when paired with Arendal Sound subwoofers, which seamlessly blend into the soundstage.
- The Tower offers no real advantage in this setup unless you prefer its aesthetics or are using less dynamic subwoofers from other brands.
