The 1610 Series 8 – Design Insights articles provide a closer look at the technologies behind the speakers. This section focuses on RØST Essence, the acoustic core that defines how sound is formed, controlled, and integrated across the 1610 platform.
A Coherent Acoustic Platform
RØST Essence defines how sound is formed and controlled in the 1610 Series. By integrating the waveguide, tweeter, and midrange into a tightly coupled acoustic system, dispersion is controlled and driver handoff is kept smooth and predictable. This approach minimizes phase irregularities and supports stable imaging and a wide listening window, both on-axis and off-axis.

Acoustic Core
At the heart of the 1610 Series lies the RØST Essence Acoustic Core. An advanced waveguide and midrange assembly engineered for controlled dispersion, phase coherence, and seamless driver integration.
The assembly is built around an elliptically shaped waveguide, designed to position the tweeter and midrange as close together as physically possible. This minimizes vertical lobing and ensures smooth, consistent vertical dispersion, resulting in a larger and more stable soundstage.
1610 Waveguide
The waveguide geometry is carefully optimized to maintain a broad listening window, even in the highest frequencies. A lens placed in front of the tweeter further enhances performance by increasing sensitivity and reducing distortion in the critical 7–15 kHz range, while also improving off-axis response. At the same time, it serves as protection for the tweeter dome.
For mechanical stability, the entire waveguide structure is mounted directly to a thick threaded steel plate. This provides the necessary rigidity to properly support the midrange driver, whose oversized motor assembly requires a mounting solution far more robust than conventional wood inserts. The result is an exceptionally solid acoustic core with both structural integrity and acoustic precision.
1610 Tweeter
The 1610 high-frequency driver is a 28 mm aluminium-magnesium dome, chosen for its exceptional stiffness combined with naturally well-controlled damping. This results in an extended, clean treble response with excellent transient precision.
A powerful neodymium motor, paired with a large copper shorting ring, ensures ultra-low distortion even at high output levels. Combined with the lightweight dome assembly, the tweeter achieves very high sensitivity (95.5 dB, 1W/1m) along with outstanding power handling.
1610 Midrange
The dedicated 1610 midrange driver uses a 5 inch dry carbon fiber cone, offering an ideal balance of extremely low mass and high rigidity. This stiffness translates directly into remarkable detail retrieval, accuracy, and dynamic capability.
Its motor system is exceptionally large for a driver of this size. Coupled with a sealed basket design, it enables a sensitivity of 95 dB (1W/1m). With a fully enclosed basket and copper shorting ring technology, the midrange achieves ultra-low distortion and minimal dynamic compression, even at demanding SPL levels.
